RE MRI SCANNERS
24 December, 1999

The Commonwealth DPP, Damian Bugg QC, said in Hobart today that no decision had been made by his Office to prosecute any person following recent enquiries into the purchase of MRI scanners.

Mr Bugg said that whilst his Office had received some preliminary material on a number of matters and had provided preliminary advice his Office had not yet received Briefs of Evidence upon which it can make any decisions about possible prosecutions.

"I suspect that it will be some time yet before my Office receives the material which it has requested", Mr Bugg said. "When that happens the material will be considered and decisions made. Until then it is quite incorrect to suggest that my Office is prosecuting any person as a result of this enquiry."
