The decision in respect of Dr Colston was made on expert medical advice that he was unfit to stand trial at the relevant time and there was no prospect that he would be fit to stand trial in the future.
As with any case of this nature, the DPP will consider the matter from time to time. Prior to the Hon. Duncan Kerr MP's statement in Parliament the DPP had decided to review the position and was in the process of doing so. In due course, when the review is completed, a public statement will be made. Until then it is inappropriate for the DPP to comment further.
