The CDPP celebrates 40 years

Date

On 5 March 2024, CDPP staff acknowledged the 40 year anniversary of the Office being established.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Raelene Sharp KC, hosted an online panel event joined by staff from each of the 10 offices. The event featured a panel of current staff representing staff who joined the Office in each decade since the 1980s.

Those staff shared their experiences of change throughout their tenure, covering everything from changes in technology and the support available, through to valuable connections and memorable cases.

In her welcome, the Director acknowledged the previous 8 Directors and thanked all staff for making an impact on the Office and contributing to its delivery of a fair and independent prosecution service.

“The work we do is – in my view – the most important work of the criminal justice system”, she said.

Acknowledging International Women’s Day she said “It is also timely, given International Women’s Day this Friday, that we celebrate the way the Office supports and embraces women in the legal profession.”

In 2023, 63% of CDPP staff members were women and 47.6% of our senior leadership roles were held by women.

“I’m proud to lead an agency which is an exemplar in gender equality, where the contributions of all voices – in particular women – are recognised, celebrated, and encouraged – not just on International Women’s Day, but every day.

“I am also proud to be part of the CDPP in its 40th year and into the future”, the Director concluded.
